Claude

Claude is Anthropic's assistant, and among freelancers it tends to be the one picked up for the longer, heavier jobs. It will hold a fifty page contract or a whole codebase in view at once, and that is the practical difference most people notice first.

How freelancers tend to use it

• Working through long documents in a single pass, contracts, briefs, reports and transcripts, without chopping them into fragments first
• Drafting where voice matters, since it holds a tone across a long piece fairly consistently and takes correction well when you tell it what is off
• Code, which is where it has its strongest reputation. Claude Code runs in the terminal and works across a real project rather than answering one snippet at a time
• Thinking a job through out loud, pricing it, deciding whether to take it, or working out what a vague brief is actually asking for

Worth knowing

It has the same failure mode as every other assistant of this kind. It will state something false with complete confidence, and it does so most readily on figures, dates, legal specifics and anything tax related. Check anything factual before it reaches a client.

Its training data has a cut-off, so it does not know about recent events unless it goes and looks them up, and it will not always make clear which of the two it is doing.

Paid plans carry usage limits that can arrive in the middle of a task, which is worth knowing before you build a deadline around it.

The confidentiality point matters as much here as anywhere. Client work is usually covered by a clause that sits awkwardly against pasting the whole brief into a third party tool, so check what you are allowed to share before you share it.

Who it suits

Worth having if your work runs to long documents, code, or writing that has to sound like a person rather than a template. If you mostly need short answers and quick drafts, the gap between this and the alternatives is smaller than the discussion around it suggests.
